Of all situations, medical situations may make us wrinkle our brows in the application of our Code of Professional Conduct. The terminology includes body part labels, procedures, and medications. And what is this HIPAA thing? How do we handle ourselves this without a medical degree? Instruction will begin with an overview of the growth and development of interpreting in medical settings, including relevant legislation. The RID CPC will be discussed in relation to professional behavior in medical settings. Case studies will be presented for analysis. Participant discussion is expected to occur throughout the training session. Interpreting in Legal Settings 101--1pm-4pm--“I am afraid of legal interpreting. The court room intimidates me.” As well it should. It is designed to do so! Legal interpreting has its tense moments, but the majority of work is rather routine.
